Your maid’s work permit is about to expire, and as you’ve been happy about her contribution to your household, you wish to renew it. The good news is that much of the process can be done online from the comfort of home.
Here is a step-by-step guide on how to renew your helper’s work permit. Moreover, learn the tips from this maid insurance renewal guide.
1) Receive the renewal letter
Domestic helpers’ work permits generally need to be renewed every two years.
The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) will send you a renewal letter about 8 weeks before the expiry of your helper’s work permit. You will be able to renew the work permit online after receipt of this letter.
If you wish to renew your helper’s work permit before receiving the renewal letter, you can submit a request to do so here.
2) Maid Insurance policy renewal
All domestic helpers must be covered by medical and personal accident insurance in order to work in Singapore, so your helper should already have such insurance protection.
Before you can renew her work permit, you will need to renew her insurance as well. This can be done through your insurer after you have received MOM’s renewal letter.
Maid insurance renewal can usually be done online. Check with your insurer if you are not sure how to do so.
3) Get a new security bond
You will need to renew your helper’s security bond before renewing her work permit. Some maid insurance plans also provides an option to renew the security bond.
Details about the bond will be sent to MOM by the insurer upon renewal of the insurance policy and must reach MOM before you can apply to renew your helper’s work permit.
