Couples who travel with their kids usually end up visiting a lot of theme parks and zoos.
That’s well and good, but what if you want to have a romantic vacation that reminds you of why you fell in love in the first place?
It is possible to let the sparks fly on vacation even when the kids are traveling with you. Here’s how.
Choose a hotel with childcare or babysitting services
As much as you might enjoy traveling with the kids, it’s understandable if you want to get away from time to time to be alone with your partner.
One option is to choose accommodation with childcare or babysitting services. If the babysitting services are available in the evenings, you’ll be able to leave your child at the hotel to enjoy a romantic dinner just the two of you, or even get a drink at a bar without having to worry about it not being child-friendly.
Choose accommodation which offers a bit of privacy
Many parents traveling with children get the hotel to add an extra bed in the room. While this is certainly cheap compared to booking a separate room, it is also not the most romantic of arrangements.
If your children are old enough to sleep on their own, consider booking two connecting rooms, or a suite with a living room area which you and your partner can use when the children are sleeping.
For parents of younger kids who need constant supervision, picking a hotel with a small balcony or a serviced apartment with a separate living room can give you the chance to steal some time away with your partner when the kids are asleep.

Hire a babysitter on certain days
In many developed countries, parents have the option of hiring an ad-hoc babysitter on days when they are not able to look after their kids. Before leaving Singapore on your trip, do some online research to determine if this is a common practice in the country you’re visiting.
If possible, it is best to arrange for the babysitter ahead of time to avoid disappointment. Speak to the babysitter on the phone or Skype and read his or her references, if any, to determine if this is someone you can trust.
Having a babysitter take care of your children for a day or two can give you and your partner the space you need to spend some one-on-one time together.
Travel with a family member who’s willing to look after your child
Do you have a selfless family member or friend who’s happy to travel with you and help out with the kids? Then taking them along on the trip might be an option.
Of course, it is important to be fair and respect the other person’s boundaries. Be transparent about your expectations and encourage the person accompanying you to do the same.
If the person is going to be looking after your child nonstop during the entire trip, it would be appropriate to pay for their flight, accommodation, and expenses.
If you are not prepared to do that, you and your partner could do the bulk of the childcare duties, but see if your family member or friend would be open to looking after the child on certain evenings.
